Oh Christmas Tree

This year’s Christmas Tree Theme at Feral Living headquarters was “Liberace on Crack”.

Same as last year. This is the tree (about 77kb).

Any firefighters among you will be interested to know that, first of all, yes, those are live candles burning on the tree (an Austrian tradition) and, second, yes, several dozen house fires (at least) result from this tradition every Yuletide season.

What’s in the long blue package? A fire extinguisher?
    (Thanks)

  4. aha! the perfect cure for fiendish feline’s tree-scaling antics. Now, where did I put those matches?

  5. The long blue package is skis for my father-in-law.

Yes, the candles seem to keep the cat out of the tree. But we only light them a couple times during the holidays, and only with a bucket of water handy.

On the radio this morning, it was reported that a retired gentleman in Salzburg burned to death, yesterday I think, in a house fire, when his tree got out of control.

I think I’m getting it now.
I was thinking how feral could living be when surrounded by art, music, and facinating conversation with other Eurosnobs? But calling forth fire -bare-naked fire! right in your dining room … well, ok then. I see.

  7. Some people like to substitute sparklers for the candles. Most fun at the end of the season, when the trees are good and dry.

Charlie Brown comes to mind when I gaze upon your tree.

But I meant it in the niceset possible way.

Are those candies on the tree? Or candy-shaped glass ornaments?

  10. That’s how it was taken. Those are delicious chocolate candies, none of which survive the holidays.
