The Swedish recorder teacher accosted me as I waited for my cello teacher, and announced that she’d bring a student over to play with me. The ultimate plan is for cembalo, three recorders and cello to play this Purcell number, all adult students at the school.
She and a student played two recorder parts, I played the cello part (= bass line) and it sounded good. It was my first time playing with other people, ever. I did lose my place at one point, in the second part of the tune, but so did the recorder student.
Purcell rocks. So does playing with other people. Wow.
yipppeee!
Good, eh? You’ll soon be addicted to it! :)
I was telling a friend about it today and she said, “Oh, yes, I know just what you mean, I used to study the accordion, and I enjoyed playing in the accordion orchestra lots more than solo performances.”
And I thought, “accordion orchestra? I thought they only had those in hell.”
Like any instrument, accordions can be very cool too, in the proper hands. I know a kid who wins accordion contests all over the country, and he’s a genius. Seriously.
Yeah, go ahead, cover those tracks, Mig.
Performing music in a group is a spiritual experience.
