Cello lesson

Yes, yesterday was Thursday, meaning I had another cello lesson. For all the jokes I have made about my cello playing, I was happy to observe last night that I am genuinely making progress. Playing cello for me is like having a breath-takingly beautiful girlfriend with eczema who vomits purple slime when sexually aroused, and now the eczema is getting a little better.

I am speechless in the face of your descriptive vocabulary.

    Wow.

  2. A breath-takingly beautiful girlfriend? Is there something you want to tell me, dear?

  3. Do we get to meet this girlfriend? or will she be kept locked in a case somewhere?

You’ll know she’s about to make an appearance when the air-pump starts up…

Is this the first comment by “Alpha”? I haven

  6. now that’s a mental image it will take weeks to get rid of, thanks mig….

Nah, it wasn’t Alpha’s first comment, she started a couple posts further down. Funny, it wasn’t her normal ISP, either.

Unfortunately, as someone’s who’s been a professional musician for 25+ years, I can tell you it’s always like that. Even when people think you’re a real musician, all most of us ever do is try to try to clear up the eczema a little more every day, or work on the vomiting–but probably not both.

I mean, playing music is a high like no other, but it’s not like you get to feel good about how well you play, because you can always hear how much better you should be. It’s always just out of reach, and that’s the way it should be.

Or maybe I feel that way because I suck. Hmmm…

PS, the cello is one of my favorite instruments to listen to. I envy your learning the instrument.

We were at another recital/awards ceremony last night; a 12 year old cellist played and she so rocked. She was incredible. I was thankful for my lessons, which gave me the ability to at least appreciate her playing like that, not that I ever will myself.

  11. You can always check out some Apocalyptica for inspiration…

Cello and French Horn are my Classical faves.

  12. Miguel

yeah, apocalyptica are good. i listen to them in the car on the way to work.

  13. disappointed with all the verbiage of the eczematous girlfriend etc…; my goal was to find a source where real instructions could be received – even if it must be for a fee. Let me know if you have such an arrangement on this website. Thanks.
