While she was in the hospital, Gamma for a while shared a room with a 7 year-old girl who had been beaten up by a male relative. She also had a gynocological exam, but we don’t know what the results were. She had two black eyes and a broken nose, among other injuries and when the doctors asked her if anything hurt she said no, nothing hurt.

Ther’es an enormous amount of pressure to ‘be a good girl,’ isn’t there? Poor thing. I hope someone teaches her, and her aggressor, right someday.
My neighbors were an emergency foster care home. The saddest part……these children very often love the abuser very much and will oft go to “bat” for them And, are very defensive and protective of their abusers.

That she said “nothing hurts” is just so very heart breaking. I just want to sweep the child in my arms and tell her that everything is going to be ok.
we wouldn’t be telling the truth if we told her everything will be okay. i’m afraid everything is going to be very fucked-up for a very long time for that poor kid. kids tend to believe things are the way they should be, i think, and that they deserve what they get. or at least they are powerless to do anything. i hope i’m wrong.
I know, but I still wish I could. The world seems like it’s a very fucked up place when things like this happen to children and worst when they believe they deserve it. I hope you are wrong too.
