How to be an Austrian ATM machine:
1.) Roll over and say “oink”.
2.) Do nothing for two hours.
The operators of the system in Austria swear by their mothers’ eyeballs that the crash had nothing to do with the transition to the Euro. Simply a bug in the main computer system.
I heard on the news today that Austria’s cash machines had run out of cash so maybe even without the crash you wouldn’t have got any money out if the machine anyway.
Maybe the event (crash) was just misreported as being out of money? Because there was no mention of that here. Meanwhile, the operators of that system have allowed that, maybe, there might have been some *indirect* connection with the introduction of the Euro.
Given the magnitude of this change, the problems so far have been very small. ATMs failed again today, but on a smaller scale and for a shorter time. I was planning on spending my first Euros at lunchtime today, but I forgot my wallet at home.
