MT question

I would like to add an “archives” function to The Bug blog (link over there at the right) but don’t have the spare mental capacity at the moment to figure out how. Can someone tell me, in an e-mail or in comments to this post, whether it is possible to arrange the entire blog in a way that when you go there, the latest post shows, plus links to the previous/next posts? i.e. make it browsable by clicking a link to previous or next? And/or a link to an archives page, which would be simply a list of titles, which are links? What I don’t want is one big page where all the actual posts are displayed; rather, I want the one-by-one thing. What code do I insert where? Thanks.

  1. 1. I think what you’re asking is to have previous/next links on your index? I haven’t found a way to do that — prev/next are relegated to archives — but you can work around that, like I do on http://ofrenda.org/pho (the index shows latest entry, little arrow above entry text is to go back one, unless you are using Win/IE6, in which case the entire site is broken). If that’s what you want, e-mail me, I’ll send you the code.

    2. You mean an archive? Doesn’t it have archives already? If you just want to list, say, titles, just open up your main archives template and. Well. You don’t actually have to change anything, the default for the archives is just the title with a link to the individual entry. Just put a regular link to that (archives.html unless you’ve renamed it) in your index & individual archive templates.

If you need any other help, lemme know, I’ve been doing this stuff night & day for clients lately so I can pretty much do it in my sleep…

  2. ps. there is also a very cool little plugin called OtherBlog that allows you to post content from your other blogs, so you could do something like have a list of recent bug entries on the sidebar of metamorphism…

Well, got that fixed. Now to make the layout suck less.

  4. Your layout doesn’t suck. But, I’ll happily help with a freshen-upper if you want…
