Ahem

Just to be on the safe side, anyone ever read a Brazilian novel in which a dying cop uploads his soul to a computer network and rides around in a little helicopter hunting bad guys?

enigmatic mermaid, btw, is this week’s feral living queen of the universe, cause she rocks.

  2. I think Tom Clancy covered that already in “The Cop Who Uploaded His Dying Soul To A Computer.”

hrm. that would be the crypto-fascist version; i’d expect p.k. dick probably did the paranoid schizo version at some point in his career; i’m still okay then cause this’ll be the cynical snarky euro-snob crackpot leftist anti-corporate version.

oh, with strings. also sufi-mystical peacenik environmentalist, yet with a lake of fire. (although at the moment it’s looking like a river of fire…)

Dunno about the Brazilian one, but there’s an Australian one about soul-uploading and whatnot: Permutation City, which is by the intimidatingly smart but nonetheless fun to read Greg Egan.

And the mermaid does indeed rock.

And also, I have a gnawing feeling that my entire web presence has ended.

    That would suck.

I made a MASSIVE backup file (650 megs!!!) though, so there’s that.

    Sigh.

there was an x-files episode in which a geek dude uploaded his soul to the internet, and was then up to all sorts of mischief. his girlfriend, a fetching creature called ‘the invisigoth’ wanted to join him.

  8. It’s not a Brazilian novel — it’s Virtuosity by Piers Anthony.
