While I was busy shrieking, shivering, and sobbing, the cop asked me, “Do you want it?” in a way that let me know that, if not, he did. It was gone within the ten minutes it took me to get to town, buy something cold and numbing, and pass back by the spot to where it had wobbled and died, on my way home.
