Yes, Francis, as madmack said, we go first, then the week after that the western part of the country get’s its turn. That way we get traffic jams going in both directions.

I’ve decided to try positive thinking. I’m going to tell myself this is a ski vacation. Of course, that’s exactly what it is, so it shouldn’t be hard. I’m going to try to enjoy myself. I’m not a bad skier. It’s just, you know, your average Austrian starts learning to ski when they’re four. They take it seriously. Last year, I was riding a lift up the mountain and looked down and saw a little kid Gamma’s size (she’s five) zooming down the slope and thought, someday Gamma will be skiing like that. Then I looked closer and realized it *was* Gamma.

Well, I hope it does turn out to be fun and not a trip to the hospi… I won’t say it.

Me, I’m definitely a tyro when it comes to skiing, no fancy carving skis for me, but I still love it.

Do they break up the winter sport vacation in Austria like they do here in Sweden – that is, different parts of the country take it at different times so that everyone doesn’t go skiing at once…?
