I had a wonderful long haired black cat which had been given to me by one of my patients. A very gentlemanly cat. He would sit or lie by his dish when he wanted food; sometimes I would ignore
him if I thought he’d already had enough to eat that day. His next step would be to tap me gently on the arm, and look deep into my eyes, as if to say, “Don’t you see me here, sitting patiently by my dish?” At that point I would break down and give him more food. So, yes, cats can tap. Dogs, too, for that matter.
