In my youth, I was recommended a barber by two friends of mine. She had a dancer’s body and gave a scalp massage that made my head feel like a field of mint after a thunderstorm. We were all in love with her, but she was a Jehovah’s Witness; we were drunkards, and much less charming than we thought we were.

Now I go to a regular old-man barber shop and have to pretend to know what’s going on with the Red Sox. Sometimes, I re-cut some of my hair when I get home.

I know of a case where a gentleman, about 70 yrs old, but robust and vigorous, bold and outspoken and with a sense of humor, (seemed more like a man in his late fifties), went for a pedicure. When the pedicurist, a lady in her late forties, touched his leg, he “knew she was the one.” He asked her to go home with him and she went. She’s still there, and it’s been a few years now. They seem happy.

Sometimes if you want something, all you have to do is ask.
