my parents put my dog (after all, I was only ten when we got her, so even if she was the family dog, she was my dog too) to sleep last week. she got some sort of cancer which was causing tumors and she was never really comfortable. losing pets sucks. sorry to hear you're going through the same thing.

What a shame. I am an absolute cat lover, so I can imagine how you must be feeling. I work at home as a translator, which can be a lonely job, and I find it great to have some furry company around, even though they lie on my dictionaries and lose their fur in my keyboard. Every once in a while I tell my two cats: You mustn't ever die. I hope they listen...

Ooooh, Mig, I'm so sorry.
Every week I brace myself for something similar. Beauregard's 16 now, and still lives pretty hard. (It's been a week for vet drama. no blood. just weight loss and a sprain {?!}) I don't know what I'll do when he goes.
Sorry, that's the Leonine way of offering sympathy, relating it to my own immediate experience. What I mean to offer is sympathy, not empathy.

Oliver sounds like he was a great cat. Kisses for you and the family.

hey mig, i'm so sorry about oliver. having pets is so bittersweet because (usually) we bury them long before they have the opportunity to bury us.

our tess is almost 11 and i dread the day when we say goodbye to her. but i wouldn't have given up a single moment of her company.

take care

It's hard when they leave you--one of mine left me last year after 16 years, and one of my 15 yr. olds is working on it.

I think that the shorter lives of pets are to get us used to departures before it's relatives and friends. People without pets cannot comprehend the relationship of unqualified acceptance that pets give.

Very sorry, Mig :(
You were lucky to have had him for 10 years. I've never had a pet for that long. There's always some dread disease or accident that takes them from me, and I tell myself I'll not have another. Yet I do. I imagine you will as well..
*hugs*

It is funny indeed how deeply pets get under our skins, and not the least bit funny how much we miss them when they are gone. You don't even have to be a "pet person". Sorry for your loss, Mig, I'm sure you'll remember him well.
