Sounds like the sort of thing I would do if I had thought of it. (Writing the phone numbers in invisible ink, I mean, not the scavenger hunt.)

My son would probably do it too... he'd think it was wicked cool.

I remember reading about Beta's 17th birthday celebration (and, no, I'm not going back to look at the archive), but my recollection is that it seemed to be some sort of all day scavenger hunt. I was amazed that these kids would stick it out that long. Although my daughters both graduated from City Honors School in Buffalo, NY (the fourth best public HS in the US according to Newsweek), I can imagine that most of their friends would have wandered off after a few hours to find some beer, maybe some pot, and go swimming. Thes kids were from some of the most pmominent families in Buffalo, were all good students, and all college bound. Maybe, I'm wrong, but that how it seems.

hrm. it occurs to me that maybe some readers unfamiliar with my evco birthday conspiracy for beta might not know that an international group of adults did exactly this, along with a lot more weirder stuff, out of pure silliness. it's a little chilling to realize you could be put on trial for being silly.
