The mainly shocking thing to me about this letter was it was from a Canadian, I guess. Respectable, level-headed Canada, where even that Quebec thing never really got out of hand.

He complains about the corporatized media (he’s right about that) and then, he sends his letter to them.

Also, I was born after Kennedy was killed.

So was I born an uncaring monster?

Just curious.

where the meat is concerned, i thought his point was more to criticize the industrially-produced, hormone- (and bacteria) laden meant most americans eat, rather than the mere fact of meat-eating. in the EU, for example, giving hormones and antibiotics to farm animals is prohibited in most cases (which is why most US beef cannot be exported to the EU, if I’m understanding this right). i mean, face it, there’s probably a direct connection between the hormones and the fact that all americans have fat asses.

i agree that it was vitriolic, or hyperbolic at least, but as melly says, sometimes you have to get someone’s attention. around the world, lots of people had a great love for the United States, realistically or unrealistically. many of them now feel, for good or bad reasons, betrayed, and this love flops over into its opposite.

I am Canadian and do not share Mr McDougall’s insanity. I’m embarrassed for this boob and somewhat afraid for him if he sets foot in the US any time soon. Hell I want to kick his ass. People are still smarting from last year’s events and this is insensitive self-centered drivel. This is one of those times where editing would have come in handy. I have been known to resent and rant about at the haves when I was a have not, but am learning that saying nothing at all often rocks the boat less. I usually see the errors in my judgement if enough time passes and if I’ve said nothing I have no mess to clean up. Perhaps Mr McDougall should have read what he wrote and put it into the recycle bin rather than hitting send.

Wow. That’s the most poisonous, ill-informed vitriol I can remember reading since… well, since I never made it through the “Protocols of the Elders of Zion”, I may not have finished another piece that nasty. It’s certainly true that America has a lot to answer for, but any attack quite so filled with speculative, conspiracy-based nonsense as that one is quite simply unsupportable.

I mean, please.

“Mr. McDougall originally wrote this letter to the Washington Post, but that paper has not yet printed it.” Really? Perhaps that’s because, apparently unlike the Baltimore Chronicle, the Post isn’t in the habit of printing the work of every schitzoid loony who writes in.
