I also have good childhood memories of farms. And, last time we visited some farmer friends in the summer, it was surprising the tolerance they had built up for flies and mice. Like, she would open a cupboard to get some plates, and mice would be jumping around, and she’d just take a plate and close the cupboard door again. and flies would ride the forks up to their mouths when they ate, and then fly away at the last minute to avoid getting eaten.
